Independence Day is less than a week away, and towns across metro Atlanta are gearing up for fun celebrations and huge fireworks shows. Here are just a few of them, happening close to home in Gwinnett County.

Prelude to the Fourth – Lawrenceville

The City of Lawrenceville is once again hosting its Prelude to the Fourth Fireworks Spectacular. The event happens on Friday, July 1st on the Lawrenceville Lawn. The fun starts at 5pm with music and food vendors. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for fireworks viewing beginning at dusk. This is a rain or shine event!

Sparkle in the Park – Lilburn

Memorial Day is an important day of observance, a national American holiday where we pause to remember and appreciate the sacrifice of our fallen service members. Unfortunately, this year’s observances of Memorial Day across the country will look a bit different than they have in years past. With CDC guidelines still advising against gatherings of more than 10 people, parades and events have been cancelled in towns both large and small.

But in Gwinnett County, officials decided to get creative. Instead of cancelling the annual event, the usual ceremony will be moved online. It will include a performance of the Star Spangled Banner and Taps followed by a three-volley salute. There will be remarks by County Commission Board Members and Retired Marine
