3 Ways to Respectfully Observe Memorial Day

Posted by Blog Admin on Sunday, May 26th, 2019 at 12:10pm.

Tomorrow, May 27th, is Memorial Day, a federal holiday to remember fallen military service members. It’s an inherently somber occasion, and it can be hard to strike the right note of respect toward heroes who died while protecting our country and their loved ones left behind, while eating barbecue at a pool party. Enjoy your family gatherings – every American soldier wants you to celebrate with friends and family this weekend. But please consider taking a moment to appreciate and pay homage to the ultimate sacrifice so many have made to protect our freedoms.

National Moment of Silence

Americans across the globe will stop at 3pm (local time) on Monday, May 27th to observe a national moment of silence to remember soldiers killed in war. All of us at Peggy Slappey Properties will be joining them, and we encourage you to do the same.

Memorial Day Events

Our favorite event for Memorial Day in Metro Atlanta is Stone Mountain’s Salute to the Troops, where fireworks, patriotic music, and a laser show combine to show gratitude to the fallen. Towns big and small across the area also have Memorial Day Parades, with emphasis on local heroes. One of the longest running is the Dacula Memorial Day Parade, and this year’s theme is “Medal of Honor.” It starts at 10 a.m. sharp on May 27th and will proceed through the downtown historic district in Dacula.

Donate

There are so many charitable organizations today that care for the families left behind when a soldier is killed in conflict. This is, perhaps, one of the best ways to show your appreciation for their sacrifice. One of the most well known and highest rated is the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which provides mortgage-free homes to families of fallen heroes. As always, we recommend diligent research before donating to any charity.

This weekend, enjoy the unofficial start of the summer season. Jump in the pool, spend time with family and friends, and fire up the grill for hamburgers and hot dogs. On Monday, take a moment to feel the weight of this holiday, and give thanks for those who gave their lives protecting our ability to celebrate like only Americans can.
