3 Real Estate & Home Trends for 2020

Each new year brings fresh trends in home building and design, from paint colors to technology, lot sizes, and amenities. Here are three of the biggest trends we'll be watching for 2020 in Metro Atlanta:
Technology
It’s been happening for years, and the trend continues to grow. Smart home technology is coming to more new homes in 2020. Features like keypad locks on entry doors and video doorbell systems will be standard items on more new homes in the coming year. You can already buy the technology to control your fridge temperature, turn on your living room lights, and record your favorite show all from your smart phone. It won’t be long before similar items are offered with your home purchase.
Natural Colors and… Gold!
Cool, calming, and natural are the buzzwords for 2020 interior colors. Stone and wood flooring bring the outdoors in, while airy grey and white paint creates a backdrop for texture and accents like green and blue. Some design experts are predicting that gold and brass fixtures may finally make their comeback in 2020 after oil-rubbed bronze and satin nickel finishes have dominated for years. Look for more farmhouse-style features, too - cozy, comfortable, and welcoming.
Micro Farms
As our population centers expand across Metro Atlanta, the micro farm trend is taking hold. These are traditional communities built to satisfy homebuyers looking for land they can use. Built into the covenants of these neighborhoods are allowances for limited livestock and agriculture on large lots of up to five acres. Families today are often looking to produce some of the food they eat themselves, right at home. A small farm inside a community of small farms gives them that opportunity with all the conveniences and safety of nearby neighbors. Homes are already going up in some locations across our area!
