Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Gwinnett

Posted by Blog Admin on Friday, May 5th, 2017 at 11:21am.

Cinco de Mayo, or the Fifth of May, is an ideal opportunity to celebrate Mexican culture and heritage, and Gwinnett County has some fantastic places to do it.  Since our offices are based in Gwinnett, we at Peggy Slappey Properties know some great places for fantastic Mexican food and atmosphere that will get your Cinco de Mayo celebration started right.

  1. El Taco Jalisco – Yes, it’s located next to a gas station, but be brave! It is an office favorite, a hidden gem of truly authentic, tasty food that you will NOT encounter in any chain restaurant.  Find it at 4545 South Lee Street in Buford, attached to the Exxon.
  2. Frontera Tex-Mex Grill – With several locations across Gwinnett, including Sugarloaf, Suwanee, Stone Mountain, Five Forks, Indian Trail, and Sugar Hill, there’s likely a Frontera near you. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with them, and you’ll experience great food, live music, giveaways, and even a chance to win a cruise!
  3. Pure Taqueria, located in Duluth, is a hot spot well-known to locals.  This Friday, expect awesome drink specials, great music, and award-winning food.
  4. Tin Lizzy’s – With several locations across Metro Atlanta, you can pick any or stay closer to home in Duluth or at the Mall of Georgia in Buford.  They’re celebrating all week long, with Cinco de Mayo drink specials from Monday, May 1 through Sunday, May 7.

A Little History Lesson for those who like all the details:

Cinco de Mayo is a commemoration of the Mexican army’s unlikely and hugely successful victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). In Mexico, the fifth of May is just another day for most people, although some celebrations are held in the city of Puebla.  In the United States, however, Cinco de Mayo has become a true celebration of Mexican heritage and culture, marked by parades, mariachi performances, and parties with plenty of traditional Mexican food. Happy Cinco de Mayo! As always, celebrate responsibly as you enjoy all of what Gwinnett has to offer!
