Outdoor lights should be simple, too; leave the blow-up snowman in storage this year and opt for classic, white lights and a tasteful wreath outside.

Use your holiday decorations to highlight the best features of your home. Have a two-story great room? Get a tall, slender tree to show off those soaring ceilings. Place garland to draw attention to your fireplace and mantle, and use centerpieces to show off your pretty dining room and its formal features.

Have a fireplace? Now is the time to light it up. A warm fire on a cloudy, cold December day is inviting and certainly makes your home cozier for homebuyers as they travel house-to-house looking for the one that fits them best. It's also a good idea to turn on exterior lights and lights in each room of the house to keep it bright on these shorter, chilly winter days. 

Warm Winter Refreshments

Encourage buyers to linger by providing seasonal refreshments. Leave hot chocolate or warm apple cider in a small crockpot with to-go cups and a plate of Christmas cookies. Not only will your house smell amazing, but buyers will have one more reason to remember your house above all others.
