Each November, the Greater Atlanta Home Builder’s Association (HBA) and the Sales and Marketing Council (SMC) present the OBIE Awards.  The awards ceremony and dinner took place this past Saturday in downtown Atlanta, and PSP had a great night celebrating excellence in the building industry.

WHAT ARE THE OBIES?

The OBIES are given to recognize outstanding achievement in new home building, marketing, remodeling, and personal achievement categories. Named after the obelisk shape of the physical award given, the OBIEs are the premier awards in the new home construction industry.

OBIE Award recipients truly stand out among their peers, and PSP continues to celebrate all who were recognized, especially our PSP partners:

It’s the first week of November and cool weather has finally settled into North Georgia. It’s a great time to perform some simple home improvements to have your home and property looking its best before the holiday season begins.

Trim Trees Close to Home

If you have mature trees near your home, now is the time to call in the professionals and have them trimmed. Dying trees can look perfectly healthy to the untrained eye, but could pose a real hazard when winter storms blow in. Having trees near your home trimmed before the seasons change might just save your roof from damage and will certainly avoid debris from piling up in the spring.

This Halloween as our princesses and super heroes go house-to-house gathering tricks and treats, there are a few easy steps to take that will keep them safe and smiling.  Some are the same ones we hear every fall, but others might surprise you:

  1. Trick-or-treat in a group and stay with your group.  It helps to know your route ahead of time, too. The more parents accompany children, the better.
  2. Glow in the dark! Reflective materials and flashlights let drivers more easily see kids who accidentally wander into the street.  The Center for Disease Control reports that children are four times more likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than any other night of the year.
  3.  While it’s important to be seen, glow sticks should be handed out carefully

Crisp fall temperatures have finally arrived in Metro Atlanta. Shelves are stocked with everything pumpkin spice, mums are blooming, and leaves are beginning to fall. If you’re thinking of selling your home, autumn is a great time to do it; fewer homes in the market means less competition and a faster sale. Help buyers fall in love at first sight by sprucing up your curb appeal with a few simple tips:

  1. Autumn colors are beautiful, but not on your lawn.  Keep your grass free from leaves and other debris that gathers this time of year by raking and bagging regularly.
  2. Spiders and other creepy-crawlies move their homes closer to yours as the temperatures drop, leaving nests and webs galore.  Clean your front porch and doorway top-to-bottom with a

Sometimes buyers sabotage their own home closing by making easily avoidable mistakes. These are the top five money miss-steps that can jeopardize your purchase – and they are all within your personal control:

  1. New Loans

Once you have secured financing, do NOT open any new lines of credit.  This means no new store credit cards, car loans, or financed purchases of any kind. If your new home needs new furniture, either use cash or wait until 30 days after closing so your debt-to-income ratio does not change.  After all, the furniture won’t do you any good if you can’t buy the house to put it in.

  1. Missed Payments

Make all your standard monthly payments on time.  Just before closing is not the time to be forgetful about that credit
