Memorial Day is Monday, May 28th, when we gather with family and friends to remember soldiers who died while protecting our country.  The official federal holiday was originally called “Decoration Day,” a day of remembrance enacted immediately following the Civil War.  In 1968, Congress established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May, and now it is a three-day weekend that marks the unofficial start of the summer season.

Parades celebrating armed service members take place every year on Memorial Day in Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C., as well as in small towns across the country.  For local parades and events on Memorial Day in and near Metro Atlanta, visit http://www.atlanta.net/events/seasonal/memorial-day/. Several local communities
